Sedat Zorba's mission to feed NHS staff in Tunbridge Wells

"We wanted to thank them for risking their life every day to care for patients."

Many hundreds of takeaway meals have been donated and delivered to doctors, nurses and other staff at Tunbridge Wells Hospital throughout lockdown by Zorba Meze Grill.

Every week or fortnight on a Thursday, the team at Zorba in Upper Grosvenor Road cooked, prepared, packed and delivered the free 50 meals to the hard-working hospital staff.

Owner Sedat Zorba, who lives in the town, said they had decided to put their energy and resources into treating the staff to thank them for "risking their life every day to care for patients".

Sedat said: "If you asked me whether they needed these meals, of course they don't. We just bring those meals to let them know we are standing with them and we are together with the great job they are doing."

He added: "We want to support them and let them know they are not alone and we are really thankful for the great job they are doing for us as a community."

Miles Scott, chief executive of Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust, said: “Since the start of the pandemic the communities’ support and generosity towards the Trust and its staff has been incredible.

“We have been inundated with kind donations - from food deliveries to glass artwork, knitted and plastic ear protectors to cakes, hand creams to special ‘thank you’ road markings at our hospital sites, and even balloon archways.

“Our thanks go to so many people and businesses – their kind gifts and messages have really helped to lift staff spirits throughout the last year.”
